Icy Road Conditions Across Area Cause Accidents, School Closures

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Sunday's rain turned into Monday morning's ice, enough to make a thin glaze on sidewalks and roadways.

Bridges and overpasses were treacherous during the morning commute hours and a number of spin outs and fender-benders were reported. Some ramps were blocked off by police.

Maryland State Police report that from 9 a.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday, troopers responded to 333 crashes and 81 calls for disabled vehicles.

Schools, including Baltimore County, Carroll County and Howard County, elected to close due to the icy conditions.

Coppin State, Johns Hopkins and several other universities say their openings were delayed Monday morning.

Police warned drivers to expect ice and take extreme caution, because even if you do not see it, it could be there.
