Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After Police Pursuit In AACo.

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ)--A high speed police chase comes to a screeching halt, when the suspect crashes at a busy high way in Anne Arundel County.

WJZ's Amy Yensi has more on why he was on the run.

Traffic camera video shows the moment cops surround the getaway car. Anne Arundel County Police and state troopers chase a white Nissan Maxima for 15 minutes until it slams into a civilian car.

The man behind the wheel is a suspect wanted for bank robbery. Police identifed the suspect as 27-year-old Douglas Myron Patterson, of Halethorpe.

"We attempted many times to use stop sticks. We also have to get in front of the vehicle to use stop sticks. The suspect was operating at a high-speed and officers couldn't do it," said LT. Michael Brothers, Anne Arundel County Police.

The incident started just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon when officials say Patterson entered a Wells Fargo Bank located on Richie Highway.

Police say Patterson slipped the teller a note demanding money and then fled the scene.

A viewer picture shows some of the patrol cars that strategically blocked the exits along I-97.

More than 7 miles later, the suspect crashes at I-695.

Police say once the Patterson was on I-97, he tried to make an evasive move and exit off I-97 when he lost control and struck the civilian vehicle.

The civilian vehicle and its driver were able to leave the scene in good condition.

Police say Patterson suffered minor injuries and was arrested and taken to an area hospital.

The suspect, who was not armed during the incident,  has not been officially charged.

It's still not clear how much money the suspect stole and what was on the demand note.
