Baltimore Officer Has New Partner After Finding Abandoned Dog

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A Baltimore City police officer has a new partner. After finding an abandoned dog at a vacant home, she fell in love.

Linh Bui explains how the investigation changed her life.

Baltimore City Police Officer Ashley Acord was patrolling Division Street last month and spotted suspicious activity around a vacant house.

During her investigation, there was a surprising discovery--a 10-month-old terrier mix tied with a rope to a door knob.

While driving him to BARCS, Officer Acord felt a connection.

"I don't know, it was just something about him that day," said Officer Acord. "He was a really good dog, and I wanted to see him go to a good home. And my roommate and I had been talking about getting a dog, so it kind of just all fell into place."

After no one claimed the puppy, Officer Acord adopted him.

Grayson, who loves people and attention, is adjusting well to his new life.

"So I'd like to think everything happens for a reason," said Acord.

Officer Acord noted the timing of all this. She found Grayson on March 20; on March 20 of last year, her beloved grandmother got sick and unfortunately passed away later.

Officer Acord says Grayson has been a blessing.

Officer Acord says Grayson showed no signs of physical abuse and was not malnourished.
