2 Charged In Murder Of Annapolis Cab Driver Shot On The Job

CROWNSVILLE, Md. (WJZ)—Murder mystery solved in Anne Arundel County.  Police have charged two suspects for the murder of a cab driver found dead in a Crownsville neighborhood. His meter was left running.

Michael Juvan Wallace, 23, and Trevor Allen Snead, 17, are charged with the shooting death of Annapolis cab driver Benjamin Kirby Jr.

Police say Kirby, 41, was brutally murdered on the job early last Wednesday morning. He was last seen by his father around 12:30 a.m. as he left to pick up a fare.

Around 6 a.m. March 12, Anne Arundel County Police say a neighbor off Honeysuckle Lane in Crownsville spotted Kirby's ABC green taxi in his driveway.

"There was blood inside the vehicle and there was also signs of a struggle," said T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police.

But Kirby wasn't inside. A short time later, officers found his body up the street in another driveway. He'd been shot at least once in the upper body.

Police caught a break in the case last Friday when a search warrant for a burglary suspect turned up evidence linked to Kirby's murder.

Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to the burglary in the 700-block of Governor Bridge Road on March 14 around 7:56 p.m.  Police say Snead was found hiding in the residence and taken into custody. A search warrant for a stolen truck at the scene of the burglary uncovered evidence, including a pair of pants stained with Kirby's blood.

Also located in the truck were .45 caliber rounds of ammunition--consistent with what was recovered from the crime scene.  Fingerprints recovered from the Kirby's taxi cab also matched Snead.

Snead--who was already in custody for burglary--was charged with murder on Wednesday. Snead admitted to his involvement and gave police the name of his partner, Wallace.

Wallace was arrested Thursday morning.

Both suspects face a slew of charges, including first- and second-degree murder, armed robbery and firearm violations.
