3 DC National Guardsmen Indicted In Stolen Credit Card Plot
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — Three D.C. Army National Guardsmen have been indicted in plots to obtain stolen credit and debit card numbers, re-encode cards and buy items at stores on military bases.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Maryland said in a news release that the indictments were returned on May 9 and unsealed Friday.
Charged in the indictments are 28-year-old Derrick Shelton II of Washington; 25-year-old James Stewart III of District Heights, Maryland; and Stewart's brother, 28-year-old Quentin Stewart of Parkville, Maryland.
The indictments allege that the three used bitcoin to buy stolen credit and debit card numbers from foreign websites.
Prosecutors say the men re-encoded cards with the stolen numbers.
The indictments claim that the men used the cards to buy gift cards, electronics and luxury goods from stores on U.S. military bases.
