Robert Downey Jr. stars as billionaire weapons manufacturer Tony Stark. When captured by terrorists in Afghanistan and ordered to build a super weapon, Stark instead builds a super suit that flies and fires rockets and he escapes. He becomes Iron Man, a metallic superhero. Due out May 2, the film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow.
Speed Racer
This new live action film is based on the popular 1970s TV cartoon series set in a world of computer game race cars. Emile Hirsch stars as Speed Racer, the kid roaring along the roadways, Christina Ricci as his helicopter-flying girlfriend and Matthew Fox as mystery man Racer X. Susan Sarandon and John Goodman as Speed Racer's family. The film hits theaters May 9.
The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Following the big success of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe" in 2005, fans can look forward to another Narnia story due out May 16. William Mosely, Georgie Henley, Anna Popplewell and Skandar Keynes return as the four siblings who return to Narnia to help Prince Caspian reclaim the throne. Ben Barnes stars in the title role.
Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
Harrison Ford returns this summer as the infamous Indiana Jones. Set in the 1950s, Indy takes on Cold War Russians with his old love interest, Marion Ravenwood, played by Karen Allen, and a kid named Mutt who may actually be his son, played by Shia Lebouef. Due out May 22, the movie also stars Ray Winstone as Mac and Cate Blanchett as a Russian spy.
Sex And The City: The Movie
Four years after the HBO series finished it's six-year run, fans can catch up with Charlotte, Carrie, Miranda and Samantha and Mr. Big on the big screen May 30. Kristin Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Chris Noth are joined by Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson. Michael Patrick King, who wrote and produced the TV show, directs.
The Incredible Hulk
Despite the flop of "Hulk" in 2003, Bruce Banner and his green alter ego return to this big screen in "The Incredible Hulk" with Edward Norton in the title role. Liv Tyler plays Betty Ross, who tries to help Bruce free himself of his other half. Tim Roth plays the evil Russian scientist who turns into a evil version of The Hulk named The Abomination. The film is due out June 13.
The Happening
M. Night Shyamalan returns to theatres this summer with "The Happening" on Friday, June 13, 2008. The latest film from the writer-director of "The Sixth Sense," "Signs" and "The Village" stars Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel in the paranoid thriller about a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity.
Get Smart
An update of the 1960s TV comedy "Get Smart" hits theatres June 20. Taking on the character created by Don Adams, Steve Carell plays bumbling spy Maxwell Smart as a desk jockey finally promoted to field work, paired with veteran operative Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) as they try to stop a doomsday scenario by the KAOS crime boss (Terence Stamp). Dwayne Johnson co-stars as the superstar agent Max idolizes.
Wanted
James McAvoy stars in the new action movie based on Mark Millar's graphic novel series. McAvoy plays an office worker whose life is disrupted by an attractive assassin played by Angelina Jolie. She flips his world upside down taking him on a dangerous journey divulging secrets along the way. Also starring Morgan Freeman and Terrence Stamp, "Wanted" hits theatres out June 27.
Hancock
Will Smith plays a dare-devil public figure who messes up his image and hires a publicist to fix it. Sadly for Smith's character, he has an affair with his publicist's wife, played by Charlize Theron. Also starring Jason Bateman, "Hancock" is out July 2.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Starring Ron Perlman and Selma Blair, "Hellboy II" hits theaters July 11. Directed by Guillermo del Toro, know for his work on the first Hellboy adaptation and "Pan's Labrinth," this sequel promises to be visually engaging.
Tropic Thunder
What if pampered, hapless actors went off to make a Vietnam War movie and got caught in a real battle? That's the idea behind co-writer, director and star Ben Stiller's "Tropic Thunder," a comedy that features Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black, Nick Nolte and Tom Cruise as a bald, raving studio boss with hilarious dance moves. The film hits theaters on Aug. 15.
WALL-E
Disney/Pixar moves ahead to 2700, where audiences will meet WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class), a little robot still on Earth, years after humans have left the destroyed planet. WALL E and his robot friend EVE stumble upon a secret way to fix the planet, and begin a cross-galaxy journey to tell the humans and bring them home. The new Disney/Pizar creation is due out June 27.
Step Brothers
Produced by Judd Apatow and directed by Adam McKay, known for his work on Anchorman and Talladega Nights, this film starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as men who begrudgingly become stepbrothers around middle age opens on July 25.
The X-Files: I Want to Believe
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in the "X-Files" sequel, "The X-Files: I want to Believe." The second big-screen spinoff of the paranormal TV adventure will not include any of the over-arching alien plot lines, but rather a stand-alone story, harkening back to those "monster of the week" episodes of the TV series. The film comes out July 25.
The Dark Knight
Success is expected for one of the last movies Heath Ledger filmed before his death on Jan. 22, 2008. Ledger plays the Joker is this sequel to "Batman Begins." Christian Bale returns as Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman. Other returning stars are Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Michael Caine. Maggie Gyllenhall replaces Katie Holmes as Rachel. Watch out for "The Dark Knight," in theaters July 18.
Mamma Mia!
Like predecessors "Hairspray" and "Dream Girls," the Broadway smash "Mamma Mia!" featuring the music of ABBA dances its way into theatres on July 18. Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth star in the story of a woman sorting out which of three old flames is the dad to walk her daughter down the aisle at her wedding.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2
Four more friends reunite on the big screen this summer. On Aug. 8, 2008, America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel and Blake Lively are back as the gal pals who like to share a particular hand-me-down in "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2." The story picks up three years later, after they've just finished their first year of college.
