The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is launching an exhibit on Oct. 11, 2012, that features manipulated photos before the digital age. The exhibit, "Faking It: Manipulated Photography Before Photoshop", is the first major exhibit devoted to photo manipulation before computers and software made the process easier.

In the past photographers had to rely on darkroom tricks like multiple exposure, combination printing and painting the negative or print. With the advent of software like Adobe Photoshop, it became much easier manipulate photos without wasting resources due to trial and error.
