Woman found murdered in wooden chest, Ind. man charged

LAWRENCE, Ind. - A man has been charged with murder after the body of an Indianapolis woman was found in a wooden chest near the apartment complex where he lives, close to the city, reports CBS affiliate WISH.

The station reported Tuesday that James Wade Jr., 60, was in custody after the body of 24-year-old Jazmine Trammell was found on March 23 inside a wooden chest that had been placed next to a dumpster at the Maison Gardens apartment complex in Lawrence, Ind.

Phone records show the victim spoke with Wade on the phone hours before she was found dead, indystar.com reported.

Court documents state that Trammell died from multiple stab wounds, WISH reported. Authorities identified Wade as the suspect after seeing his phone number was one of the last Trammell called before she was murdered.

The station did not report on a possible motive in the killing.

Police said that Wade was a resident at the complex and lived nearby where the wooden chest was found. According to the station, a blood sample from inside Wade's apartment matched Trammell's.

WISH reports that the suspect was in court Thursday for an initial hearing. He did not enter a plea. A pre-trial conference is set for May 27.
