King's new gig means that she'll drop her satellite radio show and the accompanying telecast that runs on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Winfrey called into "The Gayle King Show" this week to send over good wishes to her longtime friend. Winfrey said it's been great to watch her evolve as a broadcaster and find her "sweet spot."

"I'm equally as excited for you to go over to CBS and join the big broadcast guys," Winfrey said.

"I think you're going to do a phenomenal job," Winfrey said. "Charlie Rose and CBS watch out because I think it's going to be really really something special."
