Watch the star-studded trailer for "The Big Short"

The star-studded trailer for "The Big Short" is out, featuring Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling.

Set in 2005, the film centers around four men who bet against the banks and made millions prior to the 2008 financial crisis. Based on the best-selling book by Michael Lewis ("The Blind Side," "Moneyball"), "The Big Short" is directed by Adam Mckay ("Anchorman," "Step Brothers") and co-stars Selena Gomez, Marisa Tomei, Max Greenfield, Finn Wittrock, Melissa Leo and Karen Gillan.

"I found something really interesting. The whole housing market is propped up on these bad loans," Bale's Michael character says at the start of the trailer.

"The banks got greedy, and we can profit off their stupidity," Carrell's character, Steve, says later, forecasting what would eventually play out a couple of years later.

"The Big Short" hits theaters on Dec. 25.
