Warrant: Silver knife found near slain Minnesota boy's body

MINNEAPOLIS - Investigators say a silver knife was found near the body of a 10-year-old boy who was found in the Mississippi River in Minnesota three weeks after he was reported missing.

A search warrant released Wednesday says officials searched the home of Barway Collins' family two days after his duct-tape-bound body was discovered April 11 by Boy Scout volunteers. The 10-year-old had been reported missing on March 18. His cause of death has not been released.

The child's father, 33-year-old Pierre Collins, is charged with second-degree murder in the case. He's being held on $2 million bail and was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

The warrant says that after Barway's body was found, authorities were looking for knives similar to a silver knife with a patterned handle found near the body, as well as pieces of duct tape and other items. It says authorities seized six knives, two plastic air conditioner covers with duct tape on them and a towel with plant material on it from the the home of the child's family.

Pierre Collins has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in the case, however police say cell phone signals place him near the spot in the river where his son's body was found, on the day the boy disappeared.

They also say he had two life insurance policies on his son.
