Vandals ransack California school, make off with 30 iPads
LAKE OF THE PINES, Calif. - Vandals broke into a middle school in Nevada County, California just days before the start of the school year and made off with dozens of iPads, reports CBS Sacramento.
The vandals also allegedly stole fire extinguishers from the school and sprayed them all over on the way out.
Floors, desks and computers in the school in the Sierra Nevada foothills were left covered in a white dust.
"It's all over. The main office; it's all over their records, computers, phones everything," Nevada County Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Pettitt told the station.
The incident took place at Magnolia Intermediate School on Thursday evening.
The vandals used rocks to bust out windows and stole a teacher's iMac as well as 30 brand-new iPads meant for the junior high students.
"We believe they knew what they were looking for in the computer lab," Pettitt told CBS Sacramento.
"They moved into a new world when you steal 30 iPads - that's a huge loss for the school, huge loss for the kids," he added. "Unfortunately the kids are gonna have to do without those. They're the victims in this."
No suspects have been named in the case but authorities say they plan to take a close look at surveillance video from around campus in an effort to identify those responsible.
