US Sailor Saves Turkish Man's Life While In Port

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - U.S. officials say a USS Enterprise serviceman has resuscitated a 26-year-old Turkish man with CPR during a port call in the Mediterranean resort of Marmaris.

The U.S. Embassy in Turkey said Friday that Christopher Hockey of Cleveland, Ohio, performed CPR and chest compressions for about 10 minutes to successfully revive Nihat Arslan before he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The man, who was collecting empty alcohol bottles in Marmaris' main entertainment district, collapsed, hit his head and lay unconscious without a pulse.

Hockey, a 39-year-old aviation electrician on board the aircraft carrier, was returning to the ship on Thursday when the man collapsed.

Turkish news reports said Hockey could not hold back tears as he watched medics carry Arslan into the ambulance.
