(CBS) - At least one person is injured after shots were fired near the U.S. Capitol on Thursday.

CBS News has learned that an individual in an automobile tried to ram the northeast gate of the White House. The car was then chased by Secret Service to Capitol Hill where the suspect was shot. 

One police officer has been taken from the scene in a Medivac helicopter.

The U.S. Capitol and the White House were on lockdown following the incident. The lockdown on the Capitol has been lifted.
