Mortimer is suspected of the murders of his wife Laura Stone Mortimer, his mother-in-law Ellen Ragna Stone, his 4-year-old son Thomas "Finn" Mortimer, and his 2-year-old daughter Charlotte Mortimer.

At first, police were searching for Mortimer to question him in connection with the murders; however, as the investigation continued, Massachusetts State Police and Winchester Police obtained an arrest warrant for the 43-year-old man.

Police have been on the lookout for Mortimer since Wednesday morning when his family was found slain in their suburban home in Winchester. The causes of death have not yet been released, but the Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone described the scene as "horrific, disturbing, and unspeakable."

Sandra Mortimer, Thomas's mother, told WBZ that her son was "just a really nice man." She added, "Thomas was just a really nice man. I think he must have been at the end of his rope to do this."
