"The Voice": Top 12 contestants compete live

"The Voice," now down to 12 contestants, handed the power over to viewers as the finalists compete for a Universal Music Group recording contract.

The final round of competition kicks off new rules: two contestants will be eliminated each week and no judges will be guaranteed to have a contestant in the finale.

Here's what happened in Monday's round of the competition.

Team Blake

Michaela Paige kicked off the performances with Pink's "Blow Me One Last Kiss" and her coach Blake Shelton was very proud of her performance, saying, "My heart is pounding right now, it was so good!"

Cassadee Pope sang Kelly Clarkson's "Behind These Hazel Eyes." Pope, who got emotional while singing the song, said the it reminded her about her relationship with her dad, who walked out on her family when she was young.

Terry McDermott sang Boston's "More Than a Feeling," which required him to show off his falsetto. Coach Cee Lo Green said, "That was damn good, bro." Adam Levine said, "I don't even know if you guys realize how good Terry is. You are rock n' roll music."

Team Christina

Dez Duron sang Lauryn Hill's version of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," which Cee Lo called "impeccable." His coach, Christina Aguilera. praised his "true star quality."

Adriana Louise tackled Carrie Underwood's "Good Girl," but she didn't manage to completely wow the judges. Green said she was "continuing to improve" and Shelton mentioned that "the best is yet to come" for Louise.

Sylvia Yacoub tried her hand at Celine Dion's ballad "My Heart Will Go On." Coach Adam Levine praised her upper register and Aguilera described her performance as "fearless."

Team Adam

Amanda Brown performed Florence + The Machine's "Spectrum," which was not as on the mark as her performance last week. Green said the song was "constricting" and Aguilera explained that she is still trying to "connect" with who Brown is as a singer.

Melanie Martinez sang Young the Giant's "Cough Syrup," which included some heartfelt moments, moments Aguilera said she appreciated. "That was probably your most emotional performance and that's what I liked about it...It didn't have to be big and over-the-top," said Aguilera.

Bryan Keith performed the late Amy Winehouse's song "Back to Black." Levine said he believed that Keith's performance really stood out, "You definitely had that kind of break out thing."

Team Cee Lo

Cody Belew gave a fun performance to Tina Turner's "The Best." Green said "You remind us that this is still fun because you're so fabulous and you're so free."

Trevin Hunte sang Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman" and Shelton said, "For the first time, I think you did everything we wanted you to do as fans. We always felt like maybe you were holding back for a little bit for whatever reason."

Nicholas David sang Huey Lewis's "The Power of Love." Green praised David's bluesy performance saying, "There is no greater success than the realization of self!"
