Teens questioned after Florida 15-year-old beaten to death

WINTER PARK, Fla. — Police in Winter Park, Florida are interviewing several teens in connection with the death of a 15-year-old boy beaten in a park Saturday night, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.

Roger Trindade was taken off life support Monday night. He was found unconscious in a park on Saturday, said Winter Park police Chief Michael Deal.

“This tragic event appears to be an isolated incident between juveniles,” Deal said.

Detectives are searching for more surveillance video and other evidence in the case, Deal said.

“There is no indication that this group set out to kill somebody. Until we get more info, we can’t speculate on their motives or intentions,” Deal said.

He said detectives are trying to determine what role some fellow high school students may have played in the fight. Deal said some of the teens’ parents are cooperating, but he urged others to do the same.

“He was a good kid,” Deal said. “Our hearts go out to his family.”

Investigators said an autopsy will determine what killed him, and that could be a deciding factor on any criminal charges.
