Teen charged with raping ex-girlfriend who died after attack

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- A Maryland teen has been arrested for allegedly raping his ex-girlfriend, who died soon after the June 12 attack, reports CBS Baltimore.

A security guard outside a Rockville, Md., movie theater saw the alleged rape and called nearby sheriff's deputies who said in court documents that they caught the suspect in the act. The attack a week ago Friday was also caught on at least one surveillance camera, according to court documents.

As deputies approached, the 16-year-old suspect jumped back and pulled his pants up, the deputies said.

The 19-year-old victim told police she had dated the suspect previously for about a month, but broke up with him because he "was always pressuring her" to have sex, according to court documents. Still, they had gone to see a movie together June 12, and soon after they left the theater, the suspect allegedly pinned the victim against the wall of a nearby courthouse.

After police broke up the attack, the victim was placed in an ambulance while detectives interviewed the suspect, who allegedly said he was angry that the victim refused to have sex with him during a movie. Police said the suspect acknowledged that there was a physical struggle before he forced the girl to have sex with him.

As detectives were interviewing the suspect, the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, had a medical emergency in the ambulance. She stopped breathing and died before the ambulance reached the hospital around 1 a.m.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, but police believe it stemmed from the assault.

When the suspect was told of the girl's death he showed "very little emotion," according to court documents.

The suspect, who was charged with second degree rape, is being held on $500,000 bond. Police have not said if he will face charges related to the girl's death.
