Suspect in Michigan double-murder in police custody

SOUTHGATE, Mich. - The suspect in a suburban Detroit double-murder is in custody Monday, reports CBS Detroit.

Relatives of the two victims discovered the bodies around 10:00 p.m. Sunday, inside a Southgate, Mich., apartment.

Barbara Durr told CBS Detroit that the victims were her daughter, Courtney Durr, and grandson, Damari Dawes. Police have not confirmed the victims' identities or released the suspect's name, but Durr said she has met the suspect.

"(Courtney Durr) was trying to help this guy get a job - was being friendly to him. She brought him by, he ate dinner, he came by on Mother's Day," Durr said. "And now all the sudden you take my daughter and grandson's life? While they sleep? I hope you rot in hell."

The suspect had been seen driving the victim's car recently, said Durr.

Police confirmed that the suspect spent 10 years in prison for armed robbery and had a relationship with Courtney Durr, which began a few months ago.

Authorities say that the man was not living at the apartment, but did spend considerable time there.

Authorities are waiting for autopsy reports, but said the murders may have occurred on Friday and may have been committed using a Leatherman multi-tool.
