WICHITA, Kan. (CBS/AP) After less than an hour of deliberations, a Kansas jury has convicted Scott Roeder of murdering abortion doctor George Tiller.

Tiller was one of the country's few late-term abortion providers and was a frequent target of anti-abortion activists. He was gunned down last May while attending church.

The guilty verdict comes just one day after Roeder offered stunning testimony in which he admitted to shooting Tiller to protect the lives of unborn children.

When Roeder's defense attorneys asked him to explain his views on abortion he said, "From conception forward it is murder...It is not a man's job to take life. It is our heavenly father's. He is our creator."

The jury convicted Roeder on all counts: first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault for threatening two church ushers who tried to stop him after the shooting. Roeder faces life in jail.
