(CBS) NORWALK, Conn. - A school in Norwalk, Conn., was on lockdown Wednesday morning after reports of gunshots in the area.

The shots were reported somewhere outside the immediate area of the Cranbury Elementary School in Norwalk, reports CBS New York.

There was no confirmation that shots actually had been fired. But students at the school were being kept inside protectively while police investigated any incidents in the area.

Kulhawik told CBS New York officers spoke to people that were walking their dogs in the area and they didn't report hearing anything. Officers also spoke to people in a nearby park who also didn't report hearing anything. He said there is no other confirmation of any incident.

Police continue to investigate and officers will remain near the school.
