Maryland inmate mistakenly released on Friday, officials say

BALTIMORE -- Police are now looking for an inmate, Rodriguez Purnell, who was mistakenly released on Friday, reports CBS Baltimore.

Purnell was awaiting trial in the St. Patrick's Day shooting of 27-year-old Terrance Rheubottom last year. He was also convicted of assaulting a corrections worker, reports The Associated Press.

Corrections officials told reporters they didn't realize the inmate had escaped until Sunday, according to The Associated Press. No further information was available.

Purnell, pictured above, was described as six feet tall and 175 pounds, according to CBS Baltimore.

Jacqueline Davis, Rheubottom's mother, told The Associated Press that the inmate needs to be found and whoever is responsible for Purnell's escape should be fired.
