Restaurant worker wins restitution after gruesome injury

MASSENA, N.Y. - The owner and manager of a northern New York restaurant will pay more than $13,000 in restitution after a 17-year-old employee lost part of his arm while cleaning a pasta-making machine.

The state attorney general's office says that Violi's Restaurant owner Ross Violi and manager Dominick Violi pleaded guilty Wednesday.

The teen severed his right arm below the elbow at the Massena restaurant on April 24. He later had the arm reattached.

The pair entered guilty pleas to employing a minor without keeping proper documents and requiring the minor to clean an industrial machine as part of his duties.

The restitution will cover expenses paid by the teen's family for trips to Boston for medical treatments.

The pair also will pay state fines and unpaid wages to the victim.
