Report: CBS Plans Martha Movie

CBS is planning to air an unauthorized TV movie about Martha Stewart, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The newspaper said CBS is in talks with Cybill Shepherd to again play the domestic diva. Shepherd played Stewart in a 2003 made-for-TV movie that generated huge ratings for NBC.

The Times said the CBS movie is being rushed to completion in Montreal, and could be ready in time for the May sweeps. The newspaper said CBS executives began to lay plans for the movie as the public perception of the imprisoned lifestyle queen became more favorable.

The two-hour film will focus on the last six years of Stewart's life, a period that begins when her company goes public on the New York Stock Exchange and ends with release from prison.

Stewart, 63, resigned as chief executive and chairwoman of her company in June 2003, after her indictment. Following her conviction, she stepped down as chief creative officer and resigned from the company's board, but remains as founding editorial director.

Rebuffed twice in her attempts to obtain new trials, Stewart opted to enter prison early rather remain free pending her appeal

She's now under house arrest at her 153-acre property in the New York suburb of Katonah.
