Randy Travis, country singer, pleads not guilty to assault charge
(CBS/AP) PLANO, Texas - Country singer Randy Travis has pleaded not guilty to simple assault stemming from a confrontation in a Texas church parking lot in August.
Travis appeared in a Plano courtroom with his attorneys on Friday and asked for a jury trial.
Plano police cited Travis following an Aug. 23 incident in a church parking lot in which he allegedly intervened in an argument involving a woman he knows and her estranged husband. No one was hurt in the incident.
Travis, when asked Friday by WFAA-TV to comment about his recent legal troubles, said people shouldn't believe everything they hear or read.
Travis is scheduled to go on trial March 11 in a Dallas-area municipal court.
This is not Travis' only run in with the law. He was arrested last February in Sanger and charged with public intoxication. The troubled star was also charged with driving while intoxicated and retaliation or obstruction after allegedly threatening officers on Aug. 7 in North Texas.
