(CBS/AP) JUNEAU, Alaska - Crown Publishers says it is standing by author Joe Mc Ginniss and his book "The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin."

The endorsement comes a day after Palin's attorney threatened to sue over the book about the former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential nominee.

Crown Publishers spokesman Stuart Applebaum says the company is confident the reporting in McGinniss' book is "solid, reliable, and well-substantiated."

Palin attorney John Tiemessen, in a letter to Crown Publishing Group Monday, claims the book defames the Palins and contains "lies and rumors."

Tiemessen cited an email McGinniss reportedly sent a blogger in January seeking substantiation for several rumors that have surrounded Palin's family. Andrew Breitbart posted that email online last week.

Tiemessen says McGinniss' book contains "most of" the stories that "amounted to the wishful fantasies of disturbed individuals."

A veteran journalist, McGinniss has written several political books, including the best selling "The Selling of the President 1968." He moved next door to the Palins while conducting his research last year, something which created a stir in the small town. The book includes some of his anecdotes about life in the Palins' neighborhood.
