Police seize thousands of plants from Calif. marijuana farms

San Bernardino County, Calif.--Police raided nine California marijuana farms on Wednesday and Thursday, seizing thousands of plants and more than 170 pounds of processed pot.

Corporal Randy Naquin, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, said 14 suspects were arrested during the sweep.

"It was a fairly lengthy investigation, due to the fact there was nine search warrants," Naquin said.

Many of the suspects allegedly falsified medical marijuana documentation.

The 5,557 seized plants were found growing in fenced-in areas commonly referred to as "plywood grows," according to police. In addition to marijuana, police seized four firearms and hyrdocodone pills.

"Almost everything gets destroyed," Naquin said. "I believe (the police) keep some of it for evidentiary reasons."
