Baby safe, woman arrested in Pennsylvania mall kidnapping

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. --Police in suburban Philadelphia said late Thursday a woman was in custody after allegedly kidnapping a seven-week-old baby boy at the King of Prussia Mall,CBS Philly reported.

Upper Merion Township Police Chief Thomas Nolan said Ahsir Simmons was abducted by a strange woman. The suspect befriended Simmons' family at the mall's food court, asked if she could hold the baby and took off with him, officials said.

Nolan told CBS affiliate KYW late Thursday that the child was found safe in Tredyffrin Township. Additional information was not immediately available.

Police described the suspect as a black female between the ages of 25 and 30 years old. Authorities said that she she was 5'2", with a medium build, purple and black dreadlocks, wearing a long-sleeve light colored shirt, dark pants and black sneakers.

Police said she was carrying an orange purse and left the mall in the area near Bonefish Grill.

An Amber Alert has been issued as police searched for the woman and the baby.
