Police: Hamper full of Blue Man Group costumes stolen

WICHITA, Kan. -- Someone walked away from a Blue Man Group performance with more than just a ticket stub, according to Wichita police.

The department released a photo Thursday of a man carrying a hamper with more than $1,000 in costumes worn by the group during their Tuesday night show at Wichita's Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center.

Police said the stolen items included a jacket, a top, a jumpsuit and a flight suit.

The suspect gained entry to the building at some point after the show on Tuesday, according to police. The theft was reported on Wednesday.

Wichita police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow told 48 Hours' Crimesider Thursday that the suspect also stole the hamper he was seen carrying the costumes in.

"We don't really have anything around here where you can really sell a costume, so it's probably going to be tips from the community that will help us," Woodrow said.

The group left Wichita on Wednesday and is scheduled to perform in Topeka, Kansas Thursday night.

A spokesperson for the group confirmed the theft and called it "a very minor event."

"It in no way dampened our enthusiasm for performing for the incredible crowds in Wichita. We had a great time there and we look forward to playing there again soon," said Laura Camien, the spokesperson.
