(CBS/AP) LOS ANGELES - Police officers with guns drawn responded to the Newport Beach home of Los Angeles Angels outfielder Torii Hunter Wednesday, after he accidentally triggered the alarm upon returning from the team's final exhibition game.

Two officers responded to the alarm and entered the house, escorting Hunter upstairs with guns drawn so he could retrieve his identification.

"They said, 'Put your hands up!' ," Hunter told the Los Angeles Times. "I'm like, 'Man, this is my home!' They asked me questions about who I was. They asked me to go upstairs and get my I.D. The guns were out. I was a prisoner in my own home."

The incident began when Hunter triggered the alarm. A dispatcher called his wife's cell phone, but she was in Texas and didn't answer.

"They didn't believe I lived here in Newport coast so they walked me upstairs at gunpoint to get my ID," he tweeted before clarifying the situation.

Hunter said the police then questioned him.

"After a while, the guy told me, `I'm a big Angels fan. I watch you all the time.' I'm like, `Come on, man,"' he tweeted.

Newport Beach police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe confirmed that officers responded to an alarm call at Hunter's home.

"The police department did a great job of protecting my home. Thanks guys!" Hunter tweeted.
