Police charge man after hijacked bus kills pedestrian in DC

WASHINGTON -- Police have charged a Washington man after they say he hijacked a bus, then struck and killed a pedestrian when the bus jumped a curb at a gas station.

Police announced in a news release late Tuesday that they've charged 30-year-old Keith Loving with second-degree murder.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier said at a news conference that the man later identified as Loving had a weapon and attacked the bus driver. She says he drove off after passengers and the driver fled. As the bus pulled into a gas station a few blocks away, Lanier says it went over a curb and hit a man, who was killed.

Police identified the man who was struck and killed as 40-year-old Anthony Payne of Washington.

Police arrested Loving at the scene.
