Pickup truck runs off Ohio road, kills 13-year-old in yard

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Ohio authorities say a 13-year-old boy has died after a pickup truck ran off the road and hit him in his yard.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Cadle says Tyree King was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday evening. The 71-year-old driver of the pickup was taken to a hospital where he was treated for injuries and released.

The driver was identified as Charles Heard, CBS affiliate WHIO reports. One man told the station that he saw Heard try to drag the body away form the pickup truck. He said that when he confronted him, Heard took a swing at him and he hit Heard.

Troopers say the pickup was heading southbound just outside Springfield in western Ohio when it went off the road, hitting King and a fire hydrant.

Cadle says investigators were at the scene Wednesday interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. He says alcohol and speed haven't been ruled out as possible factors.

The investigation also will include whether the driver was roughed up by people in the neighborhood in the moments after the accident, WHIO reported.
