Parents driving to visit son hurt in crash die in accident

LEBANON, Mo. -- Parents driving to visit their son in a Missouri hospital after he was injured in a crash were killed in a separate accident, CBS affiliate KRCG reports.

Their son, 19-year-old Chris Hahn from Pittsburg, Missouri, was seriously hurt in a head-on collision in Camden County on Dec. 16 and taken to University Hospital, in Columbia.

When Hahn’s parents -- 37-year-old Daniel Hahn and 36-year-old Loretta “Lori” Hendrickson -- heard about the crash, they drove to the hospital. That was when they were involved in a collision north of Lebanon. Arthur Hayes, 36, and Crystal Hayes, 35, were also in the car -- and all four were killed.

“The accident alone with Chris was very unexpected and tragic to begin with, and then to add on his parents as well is kinda like a double-whammy,” said Alexa Daniel, who works with Chris Hahn at a Walmart in Camden County.

Daniel created a GoFundMe account to raise money for Chris Hahn as he faces medical expenses and costs of funerals.

“He’s nineteen years old,” Daniel said. “He has his whole life ahead of him and I just hope to bring his life back to the way it was, as much as I can.”

A hospital official wouldn’t confirm Chris Hahn’s condition on Thursday. KRCG reported him in fair condition on Monday afternoon.

Services for his father will be Friday in Springfield. Services for Hendrickson are scheduled for Jan. 7 in Lebanon.
