Oklahoma officer shot in the head while pursuing suspects
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan. - An Oklahoma police officer was shot in the head while pursing three suspects for a "speeding infraction" Thursday evening, according to the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation.
CBS affiliate KOTV reports that the Oologah, Okla., officer was chasing three suspects in an SUV just south of the Kansas border, when shots were fired into the officer's vehicle, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The officer, whose name has not yet been released, rolled his vehicle after being and was taken to the hospital. He is expected to survive
The three suspects -Cesar Rios, 23, Roxanne Mendoza, 20, and Alejandro Garcia, whose age was not immediately available - abandoned their SUV after the shooting. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department in Kansas, Rios and Mendoza were quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
Garcia was apprehended sometime later when a 911 caller said they saw a Hispanic male with what looked like a handgun jump into a red truck. The owner of the truck was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck.
According to the Sheriff's Department, Deputy Michael Grimes followed the red truck and when Garcia exited the vehicle he opened fire, and ran. He was later found hiding in a closet of a residence in Liberty, Kan.
KOTV reports that when troopers searched the abandoned SUV the first officer began following, they found body armor and assault rifles.
A spokesperson with Montgomery County Sheriff's Office told 48 Hours' Crimesider that Garcia will face charges in both Kansas and Oklahoma, the
