(CBS/AP) MUSKOGEE, Okla. - A 21-year-old man accused of shooting a 2-year-old Muskogee boy was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder.

Elbert Lee Meeks was charged for the Dec. 21 killing of Ja'cion Logan.

The Muskogee Phoenix says according to court documents, Meeks shot Ja'cion in the head with a pistol while trying to push his way into a home he was in with his grandmother.

Meeks was also charged with assault and battery for a Dec. 9 incident in which he allegedly shot Alvonte Morton with a 9 mm pistol. 17-year-old Morton was sitting in the back seat of a car when Meeks reportedly opened the car door and shot him in the shoulder.

When Meeks appeared before a judge via video he said he "probably" needs an attorney.

If found guilty of murder, Meeks could face life in prison or receive the death penalty.

Online court records say Meeks was ordered to remain in jail without bond, and that the court will appoint an attorney for him.
