BERKELEY, Calif. (CBS/AP) A 21-year-old man was found dead with an apparent head wound near the University of California, Berkeley campus, and authorities have yet to determine whether he was the victim of a crime or if his death was an accident.

The body of Nicholas Bailey, who attended California State University, Sacramento, was found unconscious on the street at approximately 9 a.m. July 2. Police say he suffered from a head trauma, but are not sure what caused it.

He was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where he was removed from life support Sunday. Bailey's organs were then donated and helped save five lives, his family reported to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Bailey was last seen Thursday night. He had gone to Berkeley before going to a popular bar a block away from the UC campus, but after walking a woman to her car authorities have no details as to what happened next.

Bailey was to begin his senior year at Sacramento State, where he was majoring in criminal justice, said the Chronicle. He planned to enroll in law school following graduation.

"He was a mild-mannered kid. He wasn't the kind of kid that would bother anyone," said his father, Paul Bailey, to the Chronicle. "It was unnecessary. He was a great kid."

His family believes someone attacked Bailey and has offered a $10,000 reward for information regarding his mysterious death, which would they hope will lead to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call UC Berkeley police at (510) 642-6760 or Bay Area Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
