Cops: N.H. man kills girlfriend, self in murder-suicide

FREMONT, N.H. -- New Hampshire authorities say a man strangled his girlfriend and then committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

Attorney General Joseph Foster said Monday the woman, identified as 52-year-old Mary Lucas of Fremont, was found dead in her home on Friday. The boyfriend, 51-year-old Michael Porter of Fremont, was found dead in a truck in town.

Autopsies were completed by New Hampshire Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jennie Duval. Porter died of a single gunshot wound, the autopsy found, reports CBS Boston.

Local historian Matthew Thomas told the New York Daily News Lucas' death is the first murder in the town of Fremont's 250-year history. The town of about 4,000 is located about 50 miles north of Boston.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths is continuing.
