New details on what police found inside D.C. mansion after murders

WASHINGTON - A police affidavit reveals new information about what police found inside the D.C. mansion where four people were found dead on May 14.

When police entered the home of 46-year-old Savvas and 47-year-old Amy Savopoulos, they found two people - an adult male with apparent trauma to the back of his head and an adult female with what appeared to be lacerations to her throat - in the same bedroom. Presumably, these victims were the married couple.

The Savopoulos' 10-year-old son, Phillip, and housekeeper Veralicia Figuaro, 57, were also found dead in the home.

The affidavit also states that police found a baseball bat covered in what appeared to be blood in an upstairs bedroom, and that another adult was found with severe fire damage in another upstairs bedroom. There was fire damage in this room, where police believe the fire started.

CBS affiliate WUSA reports that police have previously said the victims had been beaten, but this is the first time they've publicly talked about a baseball bat.

Daron Wint, 34, has been charged with first degree murder in the deaths of the four people, but police reportedly believe other people may be involved in the crime. Wint, who was arrested after a chase with Prince George's County and D.C. police, is a former employee at American Iron Works, which was owned by Savvas Savopoulos.

A source told WUSA that an assistant to Savvas Savopoulos dropped off $40,000 in cash at the home before the murders. An earlier warrant showed police are investigating the assistant.

Detectives believe the four victims were held captive inside the home for about four hours. They also believe Phillip Savopoulos was tortured as a means to force his dad to reveal where the money was.
