Mark Kerrigan's attorney, Denise Moore, argued that her client should be released without bail, citing strong ties to the area and his Army service. She also said Mark Kerrigan, 45, was suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome. A judge ordered Mark Kerrigan to the Massachusetts Bridgewater State Hospital for a psychological evaluation. The Massachusetts Department of Correction prohibits prisoners from attending funeral services, according to People.

After Thursday's funeral, Nancy Kerrigan cried as the flag-draped casket was carried into St. Patrick Church in Stoneham, Mass., near Boston.

The family remembered 70-year-old Daniel Kerrigan as a dedicated father and grandfather with a great sense of humor.

He died Sunday after what authorities say was a violent struggle with his son, Mark Kerrigan. Family members say he died of an unrelated heart attack. Mark Kerrigan pleaded not guilty to assault. Authorities are awaiting tests on the cause of his father's death.

Nancy Kerrigan said in a statement that her father was "my support ... behind me always."
