Must-Have Beauty Aids Win "Glammy" Awards

For the past four years, Glamour magazine has polled its readers and asked them what their favorite, must-have beauty products are, from shampoo to self-tanners.

The results are compiled by Glamour, and the most popular products in each category are awarded Glamour's "Glammy" award. One drugstore (less expensive) brand and one department store brand (more expensive) get an award in each category, so there are two winners for each category.

This year, 106,627 Glamour readers responded to the survey. It is, Glamour says, the purest form of a survey, since every subscriber had a chance to vote, but could only vote once, because a pre-printed questionnaire was used, not an Internet survey, for which security can sometimes be a concern.

The questionnaire asked respondents to write in the names of their favorite beauty products. Glamour didn't list names of brands or products, or limit responses in any way. Instead, each voting subscriber had to give the brand and product name to qualify -- so readers really had to be attached to a product to vote for it.

This year's winners will all be unveiled in Glamour's September issue, but Glamour Beauty Editor Baze Mpinja offered a sneak peek on The Early Show Monday.

Winners include:

CATEGORY 1: LIP GLOSS

Drugstore product: Maybelline New York Shiny-licious Lip Gloss ($6)
Shiny-licious is a three-time Glammy Winner. Why it's still a champ: It looks "rich," voters say, but it's never gloppy.

Department Store product: Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss ($7, victoriassecret.com)
This is a new winner. It comes in 30 "delicious" flavors and has a "sexy sheen."

CATEGORY 2: FOUNDATION

Drugstore product: CoverGirl Clean Liquid Makeup ($4.50)
Another new winner! Readers rave about the "great range of shades" that "don't clog pores." Happily, the stuff's also "absolutely weightless."

Department Store product: Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals SPF 15 Foundation ($25, bareescentuals.com)
This product is actually a four-time Glammy winner! Readers are officially obsessed with this "silky" powder that "doesn't leave nasty smudges."

CATEGORY 3: BLUSH

Drugstore product: CoverGirl Cheekers Blush ($4)
Another four-time winner; a makeup-bag mainstay that's delivered a radiant flush to one user "since the seventh grade." Plus, it's super blendable, so you don't get "that racing stripe," and it wont "cake or crack - even in humid Florida."

Department store product: Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Blush ($18, bareescentuals.com)
This two-time Glammy winner is one hardworking blush: "It doesn't fade, smudge or sweat off," says a happy voter. Adds another, "I've never found anything that stays on like this." The subtle "hint of sparkler makes you glow," and the chem-free formula is "great for your skin."

CATEGORY 4: MASCARA

Drugstore product: Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara ($6.50)
Four-Time Winner! This "pink and green gem" gives "flirtatious lashes" that are smear-proof, so "you don't look like you should be in rehab!"

Department/Specialty Store product: Lancome Definicils Mascara ($24, lancome-usa.com)
Four-Time Winner. "Never clumps." And the compliments don't hurt either: "People always ask what mascara I'm wearing."

CATEGORY 5: SELF-TANNER

Drugstore product: Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moistruizer ($6)
This one's a three-time winner! There's a reason it's still on a roll: "It works gradually, like I'm developing a real tan," says one enthusiast.

Department stores product: Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel ($30, clarinsusa.com)
Of this two-time winner, readers said it's never "streaky," and, true to its name, it "dries instantly, so I can go out right after applying."

CATEGORY 6. SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER

Shampoo:

Drugstore product: Garnier Fructis Color Shield Shampoo ($4)
Another new Winner! "It keeps color from fading as quickly," and the fruity smell "lingers for hours."

Department Stores/Salons product: Matrix Sleek.look Smoothing Shampoo ($15, matrix.com for salons)
And another four-time winner! You'll love it for its staying power. Gushes one admirer, "My hair looks luxurious like silk."

Conditioner:

Drugstore product: Garnier Fructis Color Shield Conditioner ($4)
Another new winner: Within a few days, voters agree, "it restores luster and smooths frayed ends."

Department Stores/Salons product: Matrix Sleek.look Smoothing Conditioner ($15, matrix.com for salons)
Again, a four-time winner. Why it's undefeated: Women say it leaves hair "soft" and "more manageable."
