Murder victim found under deck concrete, two arrested

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A man and a woman were arrested and charged Monday in the death of a missing man found dead Friday under a newly-built deck at a northern Rhode Island home, police told CBS affiliate WPRI.

Steven Pietrowicz, 39, of Burrillville, has been ordered held without bail in the killing of 60-year-old Domingo Ortiz, whose body was reportedly found under newly poured concrete at the suspect's home nearly a month after Ortiz went missing.

Ortiz, of Worcester, Mass., had been missing since May 5 and had reportedly been last seen at Pietrowicz's home.

According to WPRI, the address had previously been named in a drug bust last year, but officials say that the current charges were not related to that.

Forty-year-old Michelle Morin was also arrested late Saturday in Worcester in Ortiz's death. She waived extradition Monday and agreed to be returned to Rhode Island to face a murder charge.

Pietrowicz was arrested Wednesday on a felony domestic charge filed by police, reported the CBS affiliate. Investigators told the court that when they first went to the suspect's house on May 21, they found that Morin had allegedly been assaulted prior to their arrival.

Pietrowicz was arraigned Monday in Providence on charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and obstruction of a police officer. A bail hearing has been scheduled scheduled for June 15.

There has not been a murder in Burrillville since 2007, according to the station.
