Michigan woman opens fire on fleeing Home Depot robbery suspect

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - For the second time in less than a month, a Michigan gun owner opened fire on a robbery suspect - this time in a Home Depot parking lot.

Police in Auburn Hills say a 46-year-old woman saw a Loss Prevention officer chasing a man out of the store and fired shots at the vehicle the man got into.

CBS Detroit reports that the man apparently stolen a drill from inside the store.

According to the station, eyewitnesses who called a local radio station Wednesday said the woman fired three times at the suspect's car, spacing out her shots to take aim. She hit one of the tires on his dark-colored SUV, but the man and his companion managed to flee. Police are still looking for them.

Police in the suburban Detroit community say the woman had a concealed pistol license and police say they will pass along the facts of their investigation to the prosecutor, who will decide whether she acted lawfully.

This incident comes just a couple of weeks after an incident in Warren, a city about 23 miles away, where a 63-year-old man with a concealed pistol permit opened fire and hit a bank robbery suspect.

In both instances, police reportedly said the person with the permit who opened fire cooperated with them afterward.

The Home Depot shoplifting suspect is described as an African American man in his 40's. In his SUV was a second suspect described as a white male 40-50 years old, who was wearing a black shirt with yellow writing on it and a black baseball cap.

Anyone with information on this incident or knows the suspects please contact the Auburn Hills Police Department at 248-370-9444.
