Mich. tutor, charged with sexual assault, says she was the victim

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A Catholic school tutor in Michigan is charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy, but the tutor, Abigail Simon, says she was the victim, not the teen.

There's no dispute whether Simon had sex with the Catholic Central High School student in 2013 when she was 32. However, the former tutor insists the boy controlled her physically and mentally.

In court on Monday, prosecutor Helen Brinkman asked Simon about numerous texts between the two, to which she reportedly replied that the texts were nothing more than attempts to appease the boy, according to the Grand Rapids Press.

In a series of questions between the prosecutor and the defendant, Simon reportedly began challenging Brinkman for not believing her story, according to the paper.

"I'll never forgive you for that," Simon lashed out at Brinkman on Monday. "I'm not sitting up here lying like your client," Simon told Brinkman, referring to the teen.

Even the judge was starting to grow tired of the combative exchange between the two, reported the Press.

"This thing is totally out of control," Judge Paul Sullivan said. "I've tried to be patient but I'm beginning to lose it."

In her closing argument on Tuesday, Brinkman urged the jury to find Simon guilty of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and "end this circus of denial."

Defense attorney Michael Manley says Simon finally found the courage to stand up to the boy and tell her story in court.

Jurors met until evening Tuesday and will return Wednesday to Kent County court.
