Rolling Stone magazine has put stand-up comedian and "Louie" star Louis C.K. at the top of its list of "The 50 Funniest People Now."

The magazine calls C.K., whose real name is Louis Szekely, the "Great American Comedian" for his ability to make audiences "laugh and cry, just by eating ice cream. " The 45-year-old Emmy winner is also praised for his stand-up act, "Everything is Amazing and Nobody's Happy."

Rolling Stone says the list celebrates "actors, stand-ups, TV hosts, Twitterers, radio personalities, septuagenarians and sports analysts making us laugh the most right now." The magazine focused on comedians' recent work, which meant some favorites from the past were excluded.

Comedy Central funnyman Stephen Colbert beat out his former "Daily Show" colleague Jon Stewart on the countdown -- Colbert came in at No. 2, while Stewart was No. 4. "30 Rock" creator/star Tina Fey came in third on the list, while "South Park" and "Book of Mormon" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone rounded out the top five.

Who didn't make the cut? Seth McFarlane, the "Family Guy" creator and "Ted" star who will host the Oscars on Feb. 24, is one star not included on the list.
