NEW YORK (CBS/AP) - After numerous delays ranging from the absurd - dental work on his bejeweled teeth in February - to the even more absurd - last week's fire in the basement of the Manhattan courthouse where he was about to be sentenced - noted gun enthusiast and self-proclaimed greatest rapper in the world, Lil Wayne, headed to jail on Monday.

The sentence is related to a 2007 New York City gun charge. Lil Wayne - or, as no one knows him, Dwayne Carter - admitted in October 2009 to having a loaded, .40-caliber semiautomatic on his tour bus.

Lil Wayne is looking at a year in city jail, with the possibility of getting out in about eight months for good behavior.

But, let's not dwell on that. The leisurely pace of justice in this case coupled with Lil Wayne's own astonishing productivity mean that the 27-year-old has accomplished quite a bit since his July 2007 arrest: He's released two solo albums; appeared on one collaboration album; had two mixtapes appear on a Rolling Stone Best Albums of the Year list; guested on singles by Jay-Z, Usher, Akon, T-Pain; had an album go platinum...twice; was interviewed by Katie Couric; and was nominated for eight Grammy Awards. Doesn't that make you feel, I don't know, a bit lazy?

On the other hand you, unlike Wayne, were probably not arrested in Jan. 2008 at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Yuma, Ariz.. Authorities said they found cocaine, Ecstasy and a handgun on Lil Wayne's tour bus.

Those charges will presumably be tried some time in 2023.
