L.I. man tried to steal highway light pole, cops say
(CBS/AP) FREEPORT, N.Y. - A New York man is accused of a theft not being taken lightly on Long Island.
State police say William Richardson tried to steal a utlity pole Sunday from the side of a parkway in Nassau County.
A state police press release says troopers saw the 45-year-old Richardson, of Hempstead, standing outside his van near the light pole Sunday afternoon, on the Meadowbrook Parkway. Police say Richardson explained that he planned to cut down the pole to sell it.
He faces criminal mischief and grand larceny charges.The obvious question: Will he get off light?
