Killer of Mass. mother and daughter tearfully gives up parole

NATICK, Mass. -- A man convicted of killing a Massachusetts woman and her 9-year-old daughter broke down in tears before telling the state parole board he wants to spend the remainder of his life in prison.

Marvin Cathey was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences for the 1999 killing of 36-year-old Deborah Kucher, of Leicester, and her daughter Cassie Kucher.

He also received a concurrent 10 to 15 year sentence for sexually assaulting Cassie Kucher.

Forty-seven-year-old Cathey began weeping at the Tuesday parole hearing when he learned that Deborah Kucher's son, Derrick Grippin, took his own life in 2011.

Kucher's relatives informed Cathey of other deaths in the family.

Cathey told the board he didn't know about the deaths and would never come before them again.

The board didn't make a decision Tuesday on his parole status.
