Justin Bieber: "I'm not in the happiest place that I've ever been"

Justin Bieber opens about his new acoustic collection, his next album and his split from Selena Gomez in a new interview with Billboard.

In the candid interview, the Canadian pop star addressed the reports surrounding the status of his dating life, saying, "There's so many rumors. People say I call Selena every day and she won't pick up the phone or I'm chasing her down, and these are all fake stories."

Bieber, 18, and Gomez, 20, broke things off in November following a nearly 2-year relationship.

When asked if he's "heartbroken," Bieber told Billboard, "I'm not in the happiest place that I've ever been. I'm trying to get through what I'm going through. Like I said, I have my really close friends to cheer me up and keep me going."

Bieber channels those emotions in the new song "Nothing Like Us," which he appears on his new album, "Believe Acoustic," which features eight acoustic versions of songs from his 2012 release, "Believe" and three new tracks.

Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, said the singer wrote the song about Gomez. And as Bieber explained: "Because at the end of the day, there's nothing like us, you know? That's just it. It is what it is. People are going to relate to that."

Bieber, meanwhile, has been working on additional material.

When asked what's in store, Bieber said, "Either next album or for something to release through the Internet. I have so much on my mind, I want to put it in my music. I know I just put out Believe, and this acoustic album, but I want to produce music."
