(CBS/AP) FRANKLIN, N.H. - Police say it was over 90 degrees outside when a Maine man left his four children in a car in a New Hampshire store parking lot and went inside to shoplift an item.

Police said 28-year-old Jeremiah Hollenbeck of Lebanon, Maine, was inside the Family Dollar store in Franklin for about 10 minutes as the children were inside the car Wednesday afternoon. The windows were rolled up.

Someone spotted the children, ages 9, 5, and 9-month-old twins, and called police.

They eventually were taken to a hospital for treatment of heat-related symptoms.

Hollenbeck, who didn't have a lawyer, was arraigned Thursday on four misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child and receiving stolen property, and one felony, possession of a controlled narcotic.

Bail was set at $50,000.
