Jason Schneider, Md. police officer, killed while serving search warrant

(CBS/AP) CATONSVILLE, Md. - A Baltimore County police officer died in the line of duty after being gunned down while serving a search warrant Wednesday morning.

Police say 36-year-old officer Jason Schneider was fatally shot by 25-year-old Tevon Smith.

CBS Baltimore reports the officer and his tactical unit were serving a search warrant of a home in Catonsville. As the SWAT team members entered the home, multiple shots were fired. When Schneider turned a corner inside the home, he was allegedly shot multiple times by Smith. As the officer fell, he reportedly returned fire and killed the gunman.

According to the station, Schneider was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time of the shooting but one of the bullets got underneath the armor.

Schneider had been an officer for 13 years, being part of the tactical unit for almost a decade. He had also served in the US Marines and was the father of two children.
